Minimally Invasive Surgery

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Minimally invasive surgeries are surgical interventions for which the incisions are smaller than with “traditional” open surgery and, as a result, the impact of surgery is minimized. With a smaller incision, the surgeon cuts through less tissue, muscle and nerve structures, resulting in less trauma to the body. Smaller incisions — and even no-incision procedures —mean there is less exposed tissue and, therefore, less risk of infection. This approach also means you experience less pain and discomfort following surgery, fewer days in the hospital (if any!), shorter recovery times and quicker return to normal activities. And tiny incisions result in less postoperative scarring.

Today, most of the surgical treatments for gynecologic conditions can be performed using minimally invasive techniques… and many of them on an outpatient basis. But, only if the gynecologic surgeon performing the operation has the skill and experience to take the minimally invasive approach

The experience & know-how needed for maximum benefits and minimum risk.

At Women’s Health Partnership Medical Group, Drs. Diesfeld and Pattamakom have the capability, experience and confidence to perform most surgeries using less-invasive methods. While many gynecologists still perform hysterectomies with large open incisions in the abdomen, our surgeons perform them laparoscopically and even vaginally (as well as traditionally when it’s most appropriate). Drs. Diesfeld and Pattamakom also can repair certain forms of incontinence as a minimally invasive procedure with no hospital stay while many such operations are still performed traditionally and require two to three days in the hospital.

Focused on what’s best for you.

At the same time, our surgeons combine these minimally invasive techniques with the latest surgical methods for optimal and long-lasting results. As skilled and experienced surgeons, we  always put results, appropriateness and the patient’s needs first. And that includes doing whatever we can to minimize the impact of your surgery on you and to get you back to your life as quickly as possible.

A wide range of minimally invasive surgeries.

Here are some of the surgical procedures that Drs. Diesfeld and Pattamkom perform using minimally invasive techniques:

  • TVT for urinary incontinence
  • Hysterectomy
  • Myomectomy/uterine fibroid removal
  • Laparoscopic evaluation of infertility
  • Repair of pelvic prolapse
  • Hysteroscopic resection of submucous myomas/fibroids
